Iain Matthews en Egbert Derix presenteren tijdens dit concert hun nieuwe cd-dvd 'Afterwords', een bloemlezing van repertoire uit Matthews' meer dan 40 jarige loopbaan en recenter werk van Iain & Egbert. De muzikale samen-werking tussen beiden leverde eerder al het geprezen album 'Joy Mining' op en nu wordt die weg vervolgd met een aantal unieke live-registraties, zowel in geluid als in beeld. De cd is opgenomen in Thembi Maastricht en de dvd tijdens hun Acoustic Alley-optreden in Den Haag. Op de betreffende opnames wordt het duo bijgestaan door percussionist Sjoerd Rutten, die ook tijdens het optreden vanavond van de partij is.In de binnenhoes van de cd-dvd schrijft Iain Matthews de volgende korte introductie:
“An introduction, ‘please welcome, Iain Matthews and Egbert Derix’. A tentative sideways glance, a one two, three, four and we're off, darting and swaying through another musical journey. There was almost immediately, an uncanny synchronicity happening between us, as we began to anticipate each others ebb and flow. From that initial moment of leaping, eyes closed, into a fresh kind of musical stew, things have only become more pronounced and indescribably enriching. We seem to find constant joy and inspiration from each others presence on stage and evenings literally zip by at warp speed. Occasionally, on a whim, I have an irresistable urge to throw in an unrehearsed song and without a moment's hesitation, Egbert is right there, on the downbeat, with just the right inversion, flashing that knowing grin. I absolutely love the exhileration of playing with the full Searing Quartet, as much as I enjoy the flexibility and calmness of a solo performance, but I have to say, this particular duo experience tops them all, aces high.” - Iain Matthews
